How to Answer Questions your Workers Might have about Ok Alone

Introducing a new system into a workplace can be difficult. Some people will be resistant, even though the system being introduced is to protect them and help rescue them in an emergency.

The best way to combat this is to stress that the system is for them, not being done to them, and they have a lot of control over the settings.

Your workers might have questions about the system, so here are common questions asked and how to answer them.

AM I TRACKED ALL THE TIME AFTER I DOWNLOAD THE APP?

No. A worker’s location is only captured when the Worker is working (i.e. after they start their shift). The system updates its location every 10 seconds to 2 minutes depending on the setting chosen. There are four different settings for the GPS feature: GPS High, GPS Normal, Non GPS and Off.  When their shift ends, so does the tracking, even if they stay logged into the app like most people do. Equally, if tracking is not a business requirement, the Worker can turn it off by going to the settings section in the app.

Ok Alone values all workers’ right to privacy. The GPS function of the app is there to locate workers in an emergency or if they request immediate help. The system is not to be used to track worker’s movements or see where they went for lunch.

ARE YOU STORING MY MOVEMENTS AND DATA SOMEWHERE?

The Ok Alone system only collects data while workers are on shift. This information is kept for four weeks, in case there are any disputes and then deleted.

CAN YOUR SYSTEM SHOW WHEN I HAVE ENTERED AND LEFT AN AREA?

Yes, this is optional, but Monitors are able to set up a ‘safety zone’ that can register when workers enter and exit an area.

IS THERE A WAY TO REMIND ME TO START MY SHIFT ON TIME?

Yes, each Worker’s profile has a setting for sending “Start Shift” reminders either by email, call, or SMS. These can be set to notify workers between five minutes to half an hour after the shift was supposed to begin.

DO I GET REMINDERS BEFORE AN ALERT IS SENT TO MANAGEMENT?

Each worker can be sent multiple SMS/automated phone calls or an email to remind them to check-in. How many and for how long is determined by the Monitor. Monitors set this individually in each worker’s profile.

WHAT IF I GO OUT OF CELL PHONE COVERAGE?

If the app senses a worker doesn’t have service, it will tell them to Check-in using a text message or to call a number using a landline phone.  For those not using the app, they have the option of either text message or calling a landline to Check-in. Ok Alone can also be used on a range of satellite phones.

CAN I GO HANDS FREE?

Yes. Lone workers can check in/update their status with their voice by linking Ok Alone on their smartphone to Siri or Google Assistant. Workers can also use any Alexa Dot device or Google Home device.

WHO HAS ACCESS TO MY PROFILE AND WEBSITE ACCOUNT?

Monitors are given access to the website and they control how Ok Alone is setup within a company.  Workers do not have direct access to the dashboard, but can control features and settings within the app.

HOW WILL I BE HELPED IN AN EMERGENCY?

Workers are given an individual escalation procedure. Workers and Monitors work together to create the step by step plan that starts with the worker’s phone being called and ends with someone going to their last known location.

Workers want to know that their company trusts them and has their best interests at heart. With Ok Alone, workers can have peace of mind that they are being supported and someone will be there to help them when they need it.
